BRAIN DRAIN: WHY MEDICAL DOCTORS SHOULDN'T TRAVEL ABROAD - FG

The Federal Government (FG) expressed disappointment that Nigerian doctors working abroad are being underpaid in comparison to their counterparts from other countries.

Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, the federation's head of civil service (HoCSF), announced this on Tuesday during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Abuja.

In a statement signed by Mohammed Ahmed, the deputy director of information in the office of the Federation's Head of Service, Yemi-Esan advised the association to discourage young doctors from seeking greener pastures abroad because they are lowly priced due to their large population.

While responding to the body's demand for an increase in their hazard allowances, Yemi-Esan urged the doctors to remember that the government has done a lot for them through sponsorship.

She bemoaned the number of resident doctors who travel abroad to practice without serving.
