Eto'o, who starred for Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea during his professional career, will take over an organisation long tainted by infightingmismanagement and allegations of corruption.

The 40-year-old former striker had announced his intention to run for the post on September 22, saying it was time to "launch the reconstruction of Cameroonian soccer."

Cameroon will host the final phase of the African Cup of Nations from January 9 to February 7, 2022.
