IT COULD ALSO KILL

POLITICS CANNOT ACCOUNT FOR LIVES AND PROPERTIES. AFTERALL, THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY

This post might be coming too late but it is expedient we talk about it. This unlawful tradition.
President Muhammadu Buhari on SaturdayApril 7 administered Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV) on some children in his country home, Daura, Katsina State. The event, which took place at the residence of the president, was part of the campaign to wipe out the virus from the country by 2017.
It is politically great to have the president shoot off the campaign against polio in his hometown by being the first to administer the OPV-that is what I find herculean to swallow. It has become an unwritten constitution in Nigeria for all top public office holders to indulge in ground breaking ceremonies  at the inception of every project which is not only a leak in our pipeline of resources but could also pose a threat to lives and properties when they lay the foundation with their own hand especially in this case of vaccination.
Vaccines are meant to be administered by qualified individuals who have been meticulously trained to carry out the intrinsic and delicate task of saving children from the throes of fatal diseases such as polio through proper administration. And who is to say that the amiable PMB is qualified for the course he undertook.A little more than or less than the required amount of dose administered could prove fatal for its victims. Are we supposed to also politicise the health of our future generation through the unprofessional care given to our children today? This crave for posing for the cameras has to stop in this country before things go overboard.
The government should do the needful by giving out funds and employing the adequate manpower to carry out its project while they stay clear from participating in the field.Let them inundate themselves with the releasing of funds and monitoring the projects for their proper execution so as to meet international standards; most especially international health standards.
