Tiafoe Loss Hands Fils Maiden ATP Finals Spot
Arthur Fils has booked his place at the ATP Finals for the first time after Frances Tiafoe was knocked out in the second round in Paris.
Halys win sends Fils to first ATP finals...
Fils' qualification for the season-ending showpiece was confirmed on Wednesday when fellow Frenchman Quentin Halys edged out American Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(9) in their Paris Masters second-round clash.
At 22, Fils becomes only the 10th Frenchman ever to compete at the event, and the first from his country to do so since Gael Monfils a decade ago in 2016.
The world No.7 now joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev and Flavio Cobolli among the six players already confirmed for the eight-man field.
Jannik Sinner has also secured qualification, but he will miss the event through injury, meaning two spots in the field are still up for grabs.
It has been a breakthrough season for Fils despite his injury setbacks. He lifted two titles in 2026 a maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown in Cincinnati plus the Barcelona Open although injuries forced him to sit out both the Australian Open and the French Open.
