Champions League: PSG Put Six Past Villarreal In Dominant Away Win

Six-star PSG demolish Villarreal to make it 10 wins on the bounce

Reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain ran riot in Spain, hitting Villarreal for six to stretch their winning run to 10 matches and secure a record-equalling 14-game unbeaten streak in continental competition.

Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Villarreal 6-0 to extend their winning streak to 10 matches....

PSG also matched the longest unbeaten run in Europe's top club competition by any French club in history at 14 games, thanks to a dominant first-half display in their Matchday 4 Champions League clash.

Villarreal's hopes of causing an upset were completely shattered in a disastrous eight-minute spell, as PSG surged into a four-goal lead at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

First, Joao Neves headed home from a corner rebound in the 9th minute, before a misplaced pass from Peter Gulacsi just three minutes later allowed Maghnes Akliouche to tee up Desire Doue, who rifled a shot into the bottom-left corner.

Villarreal's collapse continued barely 60 seconds later, when Renato Veiga failed to deal with a long ball from Gulacsi and allowed Achraf Hakimi to steal in. That sparked a slick passing move that ended with Neves' blocked effort falling to Senny Mayulu, who volleyed it into the net.

Another Villarreal mistake saw Akliouche's attempted finish at the near post blocked, but he recovered to square the ball to an onrushing Ruiz, who drilled a first-time effort low into the net.

Despite continuing to press, PSG were unable to add to their lead before the break.

They wasted little time after the restart, however, extending their advantage just four minutes into the second half. Ruiz doubled his tally for the night, racing onto Vitinha's superb ball over the top, beating Veiga with a quick jink before calmly slotting under Gulacsi for his second brace in PSG colours.

What had become little more than a training exercise for PSG turned even more punishing, as 17-year-old Parisian David Boly got in on the act just minutes after coming on for his Champions League debut.

A layoff from the ever-influential Neves allowed him to burst into the box at an angle and smash a fierce shot into the far corner off Veiga's desperately outstretched leg.

Villarreal's first meeting with the reigning European champions in nearly 20 years ended as one to forget, extending a miserable recent run in the competition that now reads W1, D1, L12 across their last 14 games in it.

For PSG, the winning run continues. It is now 10 straight victories across all competitions, with the last seven all coming by a margin of at least two goals.
