Valentin Vacherot Claims First Title of the Year in Basel With Victory Over Jiri Lehecka...

Valentin Vacherot clinched his first title of the season on Sunday, coming from a set down to defeat Jiri Lehecka 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final of the ATP tournament in Basel.

After losing his serve three times in the opening set, the 27-year-old Monegasque steadily took charge of the contest to secure the second ATP Tour title of his career, adding to his stunning triumph at the Shanghai Masters in 2025.

Sunday's opening set pointed to a similar outcome, with Lehecka dropping just one point across his first three service games and looking the stronger player in every department.

Lehecka continued to apply pressure on Vacherot's serve throughout the contest, but the Monegasque held firm, saving all five break points he faced in the final two sets.

In both sets a single break proved decisive for Vacherot, who sealed victory on his first championship point.

Vacherot said: “I ended up playing a really solid second and third set. I had to hold tight in the second set because even until the last game he had break points. Then I started serving much better in the third set and that helped me a lot.”

“I hit really good shots at the right moments,” he said. “Sometimes it's about not playing perfect for the whole match and just playing good when it matters.”

The win over Lehecka, who arrived in Basel ranked No. 21 in the world, marked Vacherot's third victory over a top-25 opponent at the tournament, having also overcome world No. 11 Rafael Jodar in a three-hour thriller and No. 13 Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals.
