UWCL Roundup: City Hold Real Madrid, PSG Thrash Leuven

Manchester City Vs Real Madrid

Manchester City were rescued by a late disallowed goal to draw 1-1 with Real Madrid in the Women's Champions League on Thursday, while Paris Saint-Germain and HB Koge both hit five in emphatic wins.

Manchester City were bailed out by the officials as they held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw at home in the Women's Champions League on Thursday.

In the final minute, Silvia Cristobal looked to have won it for Real, but referee Silvia Gasperotti ruled the goal out after she collided with City's Beth Mead in the build-up.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan's draw in Vienna means reigning champions Barcelona, who thrashed Roma on Wednesday, are the only side with a perfect six points from two games.

In the first senior game for any Manchester City side since a report found the men's team guilty of more than 100 Premier League financial rule breaches, the women's team hosted Real at the club's training ground away from the spotlight.

The visitors went ahead after 29 minutes through Linda Caicedo.

City, the reigning English champions, came out more aggressively after the break and were rewarded for their pressure in the 51st minute when Khadija Shaw fired home an equaliser.

The late let-off leaves both sides on two draws and just inside the top 12.

“We tried the second half much better than we started the first half,” Shaw told Disney+. “Disappointed that we didn't win the game but definitely fight to the end and that's good.”

A day after Paris FC played their first Women's Champions League home match at Stade Jean Bouin, just across the road from Paris Saint-Germain's Parc des Princes, PSG's women hosted Leuven 20km away at the club's training centre in the suburbs.

Rasheedat Ajibade gave the hosts an early lead, finishing from close range in the ninth minute against the Belgian side.

Naomie Feller then struck twice in the 51st and 63rd minutes, before Sakina Karchaoui and Vitoria Yaya wrapped up the emphatic victory.

In the early kick-offs, Modesta Uka scored Austria Vienna's first ever Women's Champions League goal, but Inter Milan captain Ivana Andres equalised in the fourth minute of stoppage time to snatch a 1-1 draw.
