Guardians vs Rays game 4 final Score, Tampa Bay evens ALCS after postponement

It was supposed to be played Friday, but Saturday was worth the wait for Tampa Bay. With their backs against the wall, the Rays erupted for a 7-3 win over the Guardians to even the ALCS at 2-2.

The Rays won a thrilling Game 4 over the Guardians to tie the ALCS at 2-2...

Facing a potential 3-1 hole in the series, the Tampa Bay Rays responded with an offensive explosion. Their 7-3 win in Game 4 over the Cleveland Guardians has evened the ALCS at 2-2 heading into Sunday's Game 5.

Originally scheduled for Friday night, Game 4 between the Rays and Guardians was postponed, with first pitch instead coming on Saturday. Tampa Bay entered looking to level the series, while Cleveland was aiming for a commanding 3-1 lead.

With All-Star Nick Martinez taking on a bullpen game from Cleveland, this one could have gone either way, and early on it was Cleveland that struck first, with Chase DeLauter driving in Steven Kwan in the bottom of the first inning to get the Guardians off to the perfect start.

Shawn Armstrong did his job as the Guardians' opener, tossing a clean, scoreless first. But once Foster Griffin took over out of the bullpen, Tampa Bay answered right back  Jonathan Aranda lined an RBI single in the top of the third to tie it up and quiet the Cleveland crowd.

For Cleveland, that was as good as it got against the Rays starter. Martinez had settled into a groove by then, and while his night ended after just 5.1 innings, he left with a 2-1 lead and a solid final line: 5.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB.

The Rays regained the lead in the top of the sixth, and unsurprisingly, it was their biggest star who made it happen, as Junior Caminero laced a double into the left-field corner, with Aranda coming around to score as momentum swung firmly Tampa Bay's way.

The Rays came out swinging in the top of the seventh, threatening to blow this game wide open. Back-to-back singles from Palacios and Walls put Tampa Bay in business right away.

Then it was Aranda again. He ripped a two-run single to plate both runners, and with an error on Chase DeLauter on the play, the Rays suddenly doubled their advantage from 2-1 to 4-1, firmly taking control of Game 4.

The pain wasn't over for Cleveland. On the same play, Aranda kept motoring all the way to third, and suddenly Tampa Bay had exactly what it wanted the speedy Chandler Simpson at the plate with a chance to do even more damage.

Simpson delivered. The talented young outfielder lifted a fly ball just deep enough to get the job done, bringing Aranda home to stretch the lead to 5-1. At that point, the Rays looked in complete control, on the verge of evening this ALCS at 2-2.

As we know from their 2-0 American League Division Series comeback against the Chicago White Sox, the Guardians are not a team to go quietly into the night, with three opportunities left to get themselves back into this game and take a 3-1 lead in the ALCS.

That fightback began in the bottom of the inning, with star rookie Travis Bazzana hitting his first career postseason home run, and while it was only a solo shot, it injected plenty of life into the Cleveland crowd and the home team itself.

That wasn't all for the Guardians in the seventh, however, as Patrick Bailey sparked another rally in the very next at-bat, singling to start a string of three straight hits for Cleveland, with the team edging closer and closer to the big inning it needed.

All of those hits led to a clutch moment from Brayan Rocchio, who stepped up as the Guardians' 9-hole hitter to deliver one of the biggest hits of the night, driving in Bailey as Cleveland showed life, now down just 5-3 heading into the eighth.

Once again in the eighth the Guardians threatened, but thanks to Kevin Kelly and Cam Booser, the Rays escaped with no damage done as they moved three outs closer to extending the series and tying the ALCS at 2-2.

In the top of the ninth, the Rays gave themselves some much-needed breathing room, as it was now time for Tampa Bay to leave the yard courtesy of a two-run home run from Yandy Diaz, who doubled the Rays' lead to 7-3.

This all set up the bottom of the ninth, the last chance for the Guardians to mount a major comeback, but with Tampa Bay turning to Bryan Baker, it was never going to be easy for Cleveland to push its lead to 3-1 in the series.

Leading off the inning with a single was Bazzana, and the people in Cleveland dared to dream of an improbable comeback. Unfortunately for those fans, the very next hitter saw Bailey ground into a double play, leaving the team one out away, with Baker swiftly finishing off the final hitter as the Rays came away victorious, 7-3.

With the postponement shuffling the schedule, Game 5 has been pushed to Sunday night. The series may have been disrupted, but the picture is now crystal clear at 2-2 what was a seven-game ALCS is now a best-of-three sprint between arguably the two deepest rosters in the American League.

Both teams will wake up tomorrow with the same goal: take a 3-2 lead back to Tampa Bay for Game 6. For now, though, the night belongs to Tampa Bay, as the Rays kept their season alive and guaranteed at least six games in this ALCS with a commanding 7-3 win on Saturday.
