EPL: Bournemouth Secure First Premier League Win With Victory Over 10-Man Sunderland

Evanilson and Tavernier on target as Bournemouth beat Sunderland

10-man Sunderland fell to a fourth straight Premier League defeat after Kevin Danso's early red card proved costly in a 2-0 loss at Bournemouth.

Sunderland's miserable run continues after Danso red in Bournemouth defeat...

Bournemouth secured their first Premier League win of the season after beating 10-man Sunderland.

The Cherries finally claimed victory at the seventh attempt (D3, L3) after beating Sunderland 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

Determined to avoid back-to-back home defeats in the Premier League for the first time since April 2025, Bournemouth made the perfect start inside just six minutes when a mix-up involving Kevin Danso in the Sunderland box allowed Evanilson to pick out Marcus Tavernier, who headed home the opener.

Danso was heavily involved in the early stages but not for the right reasons, as he was sent off for bringing down Evanilson as the last man on the edge of the box.

Bournemouth failed to immediately capitalise, with Robin Roefs twice denying Rayan from range while Adam Smith also fired over from a promising position.

Sunderland were architects of their own downfall again in the second half, though, as Omar Alderete played a blind backpass straight into Evanilson's path, and the striker coolly rounded Roefs before tapping into an empty net.

With the points all but secured for the Cherries, Sunderland had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping the scoreline down after the hour mark, as he denied Tavernier a brace with a point-blank stop.

Evanilson even attempted an outrageous scorpion kick and came close to pulling it off, with the ball flying just past the post.

Bournemouth then started to take their foot off the gas and allowed Sunderland a few set-piece opportunities, but the visitors failed to make them count as Enzo Le Fee and Trai Hume both missed the target.

Just like in Europe in midweek, it proved a comfortable afternoon for the hosts in the end, who won just their second home head-to-head in seven competitive meetings (D1, L4) and leapfrogged Sunderland out of the relegation zone.

Sunderland also tasted victory in the Europa League, but now sit just one place above the bottom of the Premier League table themselves after suffering a fourth successive league defeat.
