USA fight back to beat France and win Women's World Cup

USA overcome 14-point deficit to beat France 97-79 and win Women's World Cup. Spain crush hosts Germany 81-58 to win Women's World Cup bronze.  

Stewart's 22 points and Clark's buzzer-beater power USA past France...

The defending champions found themselves behind early, but the USA rallied to defeat France 97-79 on Sunday and claim the Women's World Cup title.  

It was a repeat of the 2024 Olympic final, and the result was the same. The American women won again to secure a fifth straight World Cup crown, and extended their unbeaten streak across Olympics and World Cups to 20 years.

 

The French settled for silver after reaching their first World Cup final. It marked their best ever result, even though they held a 14-point lead at one point.  

Breanna Stewart, the USA captain, top-scored with 22 points and gave her side an early boost. Her scoring helped the US build a five-point advantage in the opening minutes.  

France answered back in a big way. They got hot from three-point range and behind Gabby Williams ripped off a 21-2 run to take a 14-point lead early in the second period.

The USA started chipping away and cut the deficit to just two by halftime, thanks to a huge buzzer-beating three from Caitlin Clark.  

Back-to-back threes from Kahleah Copper and Jackie Young pushed Team USA ahead 58-51, and they didn’t let go from there. Another Clark triple early in the fourth stretched the lead to 19, and France had no answer for the Americans’ tough defense.

Earlier on Sunday, Spain took bronze with a dominant 81-58 win over host nation Germany in the third-place game.
