Brentford finally got the statement win they had been craving, dismantling Chelsea 3-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium in a result that rewrites their Premier League derby history.

Brentford maintained their best-ever start to a Premier League campaign with a 3-0 victory over Chelsea, remaining unbeaten after five matchdays and extending an impressive record of six wins in seven Premier League Friday-night fixtures (D1).
With the last four head-to-head meetings at this ground all ending in draws, and Brentford having drawn a remarkable 10 of their previous 14 Premier League games, everything was pointing to another stalemate, and the first half followed that script.
Chelsea made a bright start as Pedro Neto curled an effort towards goal, with Caoimhin Kelleher diving well to keep it out, but the game then went flat as the visitors focused on tightening up one of the division's leakiest defences.
Having, like Chelsea, scored first in each of their Premier League outings so far this season, Brentford soon began to find pockets of space, as when Yehor Yarmolyuk fired straight at Emiliano Martinez from outside the box.
Half-chances for Morgan Rogers and Keane Lewis-Potter brought the half to a lively close, but both managers knew their sides needed to offer more in attack after the break.
It was the Brentford players who appeared to heed that message after the restart, with Mikkel Damsgaard pulling the strings and Jaidon Anthony heading too close to Martinez.
The summer signing from Burnley did not make the same mistake twice, however, as Damsgaard's corner was headed back across goal by Jannik Schuster, allowing Anthony to nod in from close range.
That hour-mark opener forced the visitors to push forward and open the game up, but they came up against a resolute Brentford back line that scrambled clear chance after chance.
As the final 10 minutes approached, Chelsea pushed so hard for an equaliser that they left themselves exposed to the pace of Kevin Schade on the counter, and although his effort was saved by Martinez, Igor Thiago was on hand to slot in the rebound and open his account for the season.
If that was not enough for the home supporters, the final seconds brought a third when Schade picked out the far post for Fabio Carvalho to bundle home.

After a few frustrating weeks, this first-ever home Premier League win over Chelsea is exactly what Brentford needed.
Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso will be left wondering where the goals have gone after his side had been averaging three per game in 2026/27, with this their first failure to score in Premier League action since April.
