Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Ryan O'Hearn is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to a quad strain, the team announced.

The 33-year-old was assisted off the field during Friday’s game vs the Cincinnati Reds after he couldn’t put weight on his leg running to first base. O'Hearn was spotted on crutches in the clubhouse. He’d already missed 13 games earlier this year with a quad strain.

O'Hearn is hitting .270/.334/.454 this year. His 17 homers already match his career high for a single season, and his 69 RBI in 96 games are a new personal best.

The Florida native signed a $29 million, 2-year contract with Pittsburgh in the offseason. He also made Pirates history recently, becoming the first player in franchise history with 10 RBI in one game after hitting 3 home runs.

Pittsburgh sits 55-56 on the year, 3rd in the NL Central and 2.5 games back of a Wild Card spot.
