Holger Rune is the latest player to pull out of the US Open as he continues his recovery from injury, tournament organizers confirmed on Friday.
The Dane, who reached a career-high of world No.4, hasn’t played since suffering the injury in last year’s Stockholm semi-finals in October.
Hope of a comeback grew this week after photos appeared online of Rune hitting practice sets with Carlos Alcaraz in Spain.
Seven-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz has also been out since April with a wrist injury.

However, Carlos Alcaraz posted Thursday that he has returned, just in time for his US Open title defense which begins in New York on August 30.
US Open organizers said Rune will be replaced in the main draw by Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta.
