Lakers to be sold to Kushner and Iger for over $12 billion...

Joshua Kushner and Bob Iger are set to buy the Los Angeles Lakers in a record deal worth over $12 billion, ESPN reported on Wednesday. The report cited sources familiar with the agreement.

Billionaire Mark Walter bought a majority stake in the NBA franchise last year at a $10 billion valuation. That deal was officially approved by the league’s board of governors in October.

The announcement comes just weeks after Kushner was linked to controversy at FIFA. Last month, soccer’s world governing body said it planned to set up a subsidiary to run the World Cup, with Kushner playing a central role.

FIFA had aimed to sell minority shares at a $20 billion valuation to Kushner’s Thrive Capital. The plan drew heavy backlash and put FIFA President Gianni Infantino under pressure.

Iger, who previously served as CEO of The Walt Disney Company, already owns a majority stake in NWSL team Angel City FC.
