De Zerbi Ball at Spurs: Why Savinho and Marmoush Could Be Perfect Fits
Man City Exodus vs Spurs Revamp: How De Zerbi is reshaping Tottenham, from relegation fight to rebuild. De Zerbi and Maresca face huge 2026/27 test.
Tottenham transfer shake-up under De Zerbi while Maresca's City struggle...
With under two weeks left until the summer transfer window shuts, clubs are running out of time if they want to wrap up any more deals.
Deadline-day drama and last-minute switches always happen, but getting contracts signed well before the window closes is far better for everyone involved.
Chelsea Setting the Pace Again in the Market
A number of clubs are in a transition phase this window, largely because new managers have come in with fresh ideas and want to bring in their own players.
For Chelsea supporters, it’s business as usual. This summer has followed the same pattern as the last few, with plenty of movement in and out of Stamford Bridge.
Arrivals include Jordan Henderson, Danny Welbeck, Denner, Pep Chavarria, Emmanuel Emegha, Valentin Barco, Geovany Quenda, Marco Palestra, Maxence Lacroix and Morgan Rogers. Going the other way, Xabi Alonso has allowed Filip Jorgensen, Alejandro Garnacho, Dastan Satpaev, Tyrique George, Trevoh Chalobah, Marc Cucurella and Andrey Santos to leave.

There’s also talk that Tosin Adarabioyo, Enzo Fernandez and Pedro Neto could all be playing elsewhere when the window closes on September 2nd, 2026.
De Zerbi Putting His Stamp on Spurs
Change is in the air at both Tottenham and Man City, with Roberto De Zerbi and Enzo Maresca both trying to reshape their squads.
De Zerbi arrived in North London late last season and engineered a dramatic escape from relegation. He’s already moved just as quickly in the transfer market to put his own imprint on the team.
A raft of players headed for the exit, including Yves Bissouma, Randal Kolo Muani, Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin, Alfie Devine, Manor Solomon, Ashley Phillips, Djed Spence, Cristian Romero, Alejo Veliz, Will Lankshear and Luka Vuskovic. Coming in were Martin Dubravka, Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
De Zerbi is now pushing the Spurs board for more backing, with Omar Marmoush and Savinho top of his wishlist from City, a club that will still be adjusting after Pep Guardiola’s departure at the end of last season.
The losses didn’t stop there. John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, James Trafford, Tijjani Reijnders and Rodri have all departed as well. In return, Maresca has only managed to bring in Elliot Anderson, Jeremy Monga, Geronimo Rulli, Pierce Charles and Mathys Detourbet.

Savinho and Marmoush Would Bring Real Value
Neither Savinho nor Marmoush were guaranteed starters, but both would still add plenty to a City team that looks to have been stripped to the core.
In 2025/26 the Brazilian featured 39 times in all competitions, chipping in with 5 goals and 3 assists. The Egyptian had the same number of appearances, 39, and delivered 8 goals and 3 assists.
De Zerbi is now pushing the Spurs board to back him further, with Omar Marmoush and Savinho high on his list. Both targets come from a City squad that will still be finding its feet after Pep Guardiola’s exit at the end of last season.
City’s exodus didn’t end there. John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, James Trafford, Tijjani Reijnders and Rodri have all moved on too. For Maresca, the arrivals have been far fewer just Elliot Anderson, Jeremy Monga, Geronimo Rulli, Pierce Charles and Mathys Detourbet so far.
Between them, the duo launched 10 fast breaks and created 54 chances. That kind of relentless pressure pins back defenders and stops them joining the attack, exactly the front-foot style De Zerbi wants at Tottenham.
On the ball, Marmoush was consistently reliable. His pass completion never fell below 80%, peaking at an impressive 87.04%. Savinho was just as sharp, also staying above 80% with a best of 88.36%.
With regular minutes, both could become a serious attacking threat for Spurs. They’d give the squad the spark it needs as they keep adapting to what 'De Zerbi ball' is all about.
Savinho also deserves more credit for his work off the ball. He won possession back 87 times last season. Marmoush added 48 recoveries himself, but under De Zerbi’s high demands he’d be expected to push that number much higher.
With City, Spurs and Chelsea all set for major overhauls ahead of 2026/27, the big question is which of the three adapts fastest. There’s also the risk that so much change at once could end up setting them back instead of pushing them forward.
After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. And neither were London or Manchester.
