Ajax Fight To Keep Godts From PSG After Busy Transfer Window

“Keen to keep Godts for another year,” Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff insists the club are determined to hold on to Belgian winger Mika Godts despite strong interest from PSG.

Reports of PSG’s interest in Godts emerged on Friday evening, just hours after the Belgian was seen in Porto alongside PSG sporting director Luis Campos. The Champions League holders are believed to be closing in on personal terms with Godts, with Ajax said to be asking for around €60m.

Speaking to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff addressed the reports and made the club’s stance clear on selling one of their key players: “Ajax want to keep Mika in Amsterdam for at least another year.”

Godts was named Eredivisie MVP last season after registering 17 goals and 13 assists in 34 league games. Ajax ended the campaign in 5th place with 56 points, their lowest tally since 1963 and only qualified for the UEFA Conference League through the Dutch playoffs.

When asked about reports that Ajax want €60m for Godts, Cruyff kept his cards close.

Ajax have been busy this summer, already adding six new faces. Daley Blind and Julian Brandt have arrived on free transfers, Caio Henrique has come in from Monaco, Marcos Leonardo has joined from Al Hilal, and Tolu Arokodare has signed on loan from Wolves. Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is also expected to be confirmed this weekend.

“We are incredibly pleased with Mika,” Cruyff continued.

“Not only because of his fantastic statistics from last season, but also because of his commitment and professional attitude in and around training sessions, and his drive to improve every day. We really can’t do without him this season. Ultimately, players will leave. But it has to be at the right time and for the right price, because we want to win titles.”
