Reigning champion Jannik Sinner brings a 13-match Wimbledon winning run into Sunday’s final at the All England Club, where he’ll face French Open winner Alexander Zverev, who is also unbeaten in his last 13 Grand Slam matches.

Sinner holds a 9-match winning streak over Zverev and beat him four times this year already. Yet this final will be their first encounter since Zverev finally claimed a major.

Since Carlos Alcaraz went down with injury in April, Sinner and Zverev have been the two dominant forces in the men's game.

The Italian is bidding for Grand Slam No.5 in his second Wimbledon final. Zverev, meanwhile, reaches his first Wimbledon showpiece looking for major title No.2 and is in the form of his life.

If Sinner beats Zverev again, as he did in the 2025 Australian Open final, it will also be his 100th Grand Slam match win.

“It means a lot to me to play one more final here. It's the most special tournament we have,” Sinner said. He had suffered a second-round loss at the French Open.

The Italian is into his seventh major final, and his first since losing to Alcaraz in the 2025 US Open final.

The 24-year-old has won his last six matches against Zverev without losing a set.

That run of losses for the German began with a 6-0, 6-1 thrashing in last year’s Paris Masters semi-final.

The only set between them in recent months that was close came in the Miami Open quarter-finals in March, when the second set went to a tie-break.

But Sinner knows Zverev will be carrying extra belief after finally winning his first Grand Slam at Roland Garros, putting a run of painful near-misses behind him.

“He is very, very aggressive at the moment. His confidence is good. He's very relaxed on court at the moment, so this is good,” said the top seed of his final opponent.

The two finalists have conceded only two sets apiece in 2026. Sinner was pushed in the opener, rallying from 2-1 down to defeat Miomir Kecmanovic.

“I knew mentally I had to raise my level, which I have done, so I am very happy,” Sinner said.

Sinner produced his best tennis in the semi-finals, where he dismantled Novak Djokovic. The 24-year-old got revenge for his Australian Open semi-final loss to the 39-year-old Serb in January.

The 29-year-old has the chance to become just the seventh man in the Open Era to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon in consecutive years.

He would enter a group that includes only Alcaraz, Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver.

“Jannik has won Wimbledon last year. Again, I think the serve-return patterns are going to be very, very important,” he said.

Zverev 'can do it again'

Just 12 months ago, Zverev crashed out in the first round at Wimbledon to Arthur Rinderknech in a result that drew plenty of attention.

Now he stands one win away from becoming the first German man to lift the Wimbledon trophy since Michael Stich did it in 1991.

He is also the first German man to reach the Wimbledon final since Boris Becker in 1995.

  

Asked if his French Open final victory over Flavio Cobolli made him feel liberated, Zverev said: “Yes, one thing, for sure, once you win a major you know how to do it, and you feel like you can do it again. You have this feeling inside of you.”
