Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani was scratched from his Friday start and will miss the MLB All-Star Game due to continued irritation in his left knee.

Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani will miss MLB All-Star Game amid ongoing knee issues...

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani was pulled from his scheduled pitching start on Friday due to left knee “irritation” and will also sit out the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the team announced.

“Shohei Ohtani will not make his scheduled start on the mound this evening against the (Arizona) D-backs due to continued irritation in his left knee,” the Dodgers said in a statement.

“He will serve as the designated hitter the rest of the weekend, but following the series against the D-backs he will have some interventions on his knee to put him in the best position for the second half of the season.

“Unfortunately, due to these events, he will not be able to travel to Philadelphia and participate in the 2026 All-Star Game,” the Dodgers concluded.

Ohtani left a June 11 game because of discomfort in his left knee and was not in the Dodgers' lineup as a hitter the next day.

He’s been managing the issue since then. It’s in the same knee that required surgery in 2019 for a congenital condition where the kneecap never fully fuses into one bone.

Ohtani, a four-time MVP, has excelled in both pitching and hitting for the Dodgers this year despite dealing with minor injuries — a blister on his pitching hand, a biceps issue, and now knee discomfort.

At the plate he’s hitting .290 with 20 homers and 56 RBIs. On the mound he’s 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts.

Ohtani launched his 300th career home run on Tuesday, becoming the first player born in Japan to hit that mark in MLB history.

He was set to be the designated hitter in the All-Star Game at Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park next Tuesday.
