Czech No. 9 seed Linda Noskova booked her spot in a first Wimbledon semi-final with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Belgium’s Elise Mertens on Wednesday.

Noskova was in control throughout the quarterfinal, which ran one hour and 50 minutes under the heat on Court 1.

It was just Noskova’s second Grand Slam quarterfinal - her first came at the 2024 Australian Open - and she’s now into the final four of a major for the first time.

She came into Wimbledon with momentum after winning the Berlin Open for her first career title on grass.

That form has carried over to the All England Club. She knocked out former Australian Open champ Madison Keys in the fourth round, then took care of Mertens in the quarters.

After making the fourth round at Wimbledon last year, Noskova is now one win away from playing in her first Grand Slam final.

“The feelings are incredible, like never before. This is what I am playing tennis for, these big stages and big matches,” she said.

“I was a little bit nervous before the match, I am not going to lie. When I am putting pressure on myself that is usually when I play my best. I really enjoyed this match.”

The 30-year-old Mertens was aiming for a first Wimbledon semifinal, but the 25th seed’s run ended there. It included a notable win over No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina.

Noskova, 21, will face Ukraine’s 12th seed Marta Kostyuk in Thursday’s semifinals.
