Germany’s Jamie Leweling vows to copy Ronaldo’s famous haircut if Germany win the World Cup...
Germany winger Jamie Leweling said Tuesday he’ll get Ronaldo’s classic triangle fringe from 2002 if Germany lift the World Cup. He switched his social media profile pic to an AI version of himself with the ex-Brazil star’s iconic hairstyle.
Ronaldo rocked that haircut during Brazil’s 2002 World Cup triumph. After hearing about Leweling’s edited profile photo, he sent the Germany midfielder a signed Brazil shirt on Tuesday.
Leweling held up the signed Brazil jersey at a press conference and said: “You saw I changed my profile picture with this Ronaldo haircut. It was a bit of fun but it got so much attention that the real Ronaldo sent me a shirt. A Brazilian reporter gave it to me.”
He then vowed to copy the two-time World Cup winner’s famous triangle fringe if Germany go on to win the World Cup.
“Until the final there are still a few games to go but if we win the final then I will make that haircut. This is my promise to Germany,” he said.
Group winners confirmed
Germany have already clinched first place in the group after beating Curaçao and Ivory Coast. Their round of 32 game will be in Boston.
They don’t know their opponent yet, but Leweling said they probably won’t rest key players vs Ecuador on Thursday as they chase three wins from three in Group E.
On Ecuador, Leweling said: “Ecuador have players who play at the highest level in Europe. They may not have had a good start to this World Cup. We will have solutions.”
Germany’s bench strength is standing out. Deniz Undav came off the bench to score both goals in the 2-1 win over Ivory Coast, while fellow sub Nadiem Amiri set one up. Undav, Leweling’s club teammate at VfB Stuttgart, now has 3 goals and 2 assists across the first two matches.
