Nigeria opened their 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualification campaign with a 2-0 win over Comoros in the first leg of the CAF Women's qualifying second-round tie on Friday.

Second-half goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu secured victory for the Super Falcons over the Coelacanths at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

Although Comoros were designated as the home team, the fixture was played in Ikenne-Remo as they do not have a stadium that meets Confederation of African Football standards.

Nigeria went into the match as overwhelming favourites against a Comoros side that had thrashed Sudan 30-0 on aggregate in the first round.

The 10-time African champions dominated from the opening minutes but struggled to make their superiority count.

In the 11th minute, a well-worked attacking move fell to Toni Payne, whose curling effort drifted wide.

Nigeria came even closer in the 26th minute when Payne teed up captain Rasheedat Ajibade, but her effort hit the crossbar before Glory Ogbonna failed to convert the rebound.

Despite creating a host of chances, the Super Falcons went into the half-time break with the score still goalless.

The breakthrough finally came three minutes after the restart when Gift Monday headed a cross into the path of Alozie, who finished calmly from close range.

They doubled their advantage two minutes past the hour mark when Kanu headed home a corner from Jennifer Echegini.

Comoros struggled to create any meaningful chances as Nigeria maintained control and comfortably saw out their two-goal lead until the final whistle.

The result puts the Super Falcons in a commanding position heading into Tuesday's return leg, which will also be held in Ikenne.

The winners on aggregate will progress to the third round of the five-stage African qualifying series, where Morocco await following the Republic of Congo's withdrawal.
