SK Rapid Vienna announced Wednesday that they have brought in Danish striker Tonni Adamsen from Silkeborg IF on a contract running two years.

“I'm glad that everything worked out and that we have found a good agreement after a long time. I'm really looking forward to my new teammates and the club, the first training sessions, and to the new task here in Vienna,” says Adamsen to the club website.

Rapid Vienna, who finished fifth in the Austrian Bundesliga last season, are coached by fellow Dane Johannes Hoff Thorup.

The club's sporting director, Markus Katzer, says that Adamsen has been a desired player for the club and that he is very happy that the parties have reached an agreement, even though the Dane also had other attractive options.

Johannes Hoff Thorup, 37, previously managed FC Nordsjaelland before joining Rapid Vienna in January. He also had a stint at Norwich in England prior to that move.

Adamsen joined Silkeborg from FC Helsingor in the summer of 2022 and has since become a key player for the side. Across 156 appearances he’s recorded 65 goals and 24 assists, and played a crucial role this season in helping Silkeborg stay up in the Super League.

Rapid Vienna have claimed 32 league titles, with their most recent coming in the 2007/08 campaign. Austrian football has largely been controlled by Red Bull Salzburg since then, while Sturm Graz and, more recently, LASK Linz have also won the championship in the last few years.
