Tommy Paul rallied from a set down to defeat Alex de Minaur in the Hamburg ATP semifinals on Friday. The American, ranked 26th in the world, earned his spot in the final with the win.
Paul trailed 6-2, 3-0 on the clay in Hamburg but turned it around to take the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The result sets up a final against Peruvian qualifier Ignacio Buse on Saturday.
Paul’s comeback started when he finally broke de Minaur’s serve on his 11th attempt. From there, he won nine games in a row to take control of the match.
He converted his third match point to close it out in 2 hours and 17 minutes. The win sends him to the 10th final of his career and his third of the 2026 season.
Earlier on Friday, Ignacio Buse beat Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-1, 6-4 to reach his first ATP Tour final.
The world No. 57, who upset defending champion Fabio Cobolli on Tuesday, started fast and took the first set in 26 minutes.
The 22-year-old stayed solid on serve in the second set and closed out the match in 1 hour and 4 minutes.1
