Lecce Vs Genoa
Lecce make history with fourth straight Serie A survival

Lameck Banda’s early goal gave Lecce a 1-0 win over Genoa. The result sealed a fourth straight season in Serie A and a new club record.

Banda scored on the rebound after seven minutes to give Lecce victory. Genoa had a goal disallowed as Lecce celebrated survival on the final day...

Lecce secured survival with a 1-0 win over Genoa at the Stadio Via Del Mare on Sunday. The result means they avoid relegation for a fourth consecutive season, setting a new club record.

Lameck Banda opened the scoring after barely seven minutes. Nicola Leali denied Walid Cheddira, but Banda reacted first to score from the rebound.

Genoa had a goal ruled out five minutes before half-time. Andrea Colombo was offside in the build-up, so Morten Frendrup’s strike did not stand.

The duel between Banda and Leali continued, and the Genoa keeper came out on top again in the 44th minute. He produced a spectacular save to tip a curling shot out of the top corner.

After the break, Cheddira and Pierotti both hit the post for Lecce. Genoa also had chances through Stefano Sabelli and Patrizio Masini.

Lecce and their fans also kept track of Cremonese versus Como, and the crowd cheered loudly for every Como goal in Cremona.

Cesc Fabregas’ team led by three goals and had a man advantage with ten minutes remaining. Celebrations inside the Lecce stadium started early, since a Cremonese defeat would guarantee Lecce’s survival regardless of their own result against Genoa.

After suffering consecutive Serie B relegations with Frosinone and Venezia, Di Francesco has now secured safety. This allows Lecce to play a fifth straight Serie A season, a first in the club’s history.
