Sergio Ramos looks set to buy into his boyhood club Sevilla, with the former Spain defender and investment group Five Eleven Capital agreeing a deal with the club’s main shareholders, according to Spanish media on Tuesday.

El País reported the deal is worth about €400 million for 80% of Sevilla’s shares, at roughly €3,500 per share.

The sale still needs sign-off from LaLiga and Spain’s National Sports Council before it’s finalized.

Sevilla have been in LaLiga every season since 2001/02, but the Andalusian side are battling relegation this year after a difficult campaign.

Sevilla won the Europa League in 2022/23 and currently sit 13th, but they’re just three points clear of the relegation zone with three matches remaining. They also narrowly avoided the drop last season, finishing 17th by a single point.

Ramos, a World Cup winner with Spain and two-time European champion, came through Sevilla’s youth system before moving to Real Madrid in 2005. He spent 16 years in Madrid, winning 22 major trophies.

Now 40, Ramos returned to Sevilla for the 2023/24 season and most recently played for Mexico’s Monterrey.
