Manuel Neuer has agreed a one-year contract extension with Bayern Munich, keeping him at the German champions until 2027.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper has been with Bayern since 2011 and has won 33 trophies in that time, including two Champions Leagues. Across 597 appearances for the club, he’s kept 269 clean sheets.

“FC Bayern has had a number of absolutely exceptional goalkeepers throughout its history – and Manuel Neuer occupies a very ‌special place among them,” said club president Herbert Hainer.

“He is ‌the face of not just one, but two generations and a captain who is an outstanding role model both on and off the pitch. We are proud of how he has shaped this club for over a decade.”

Bayern fell just short of the Champions League final, losing to holders Paris Saint-Germain in the semis last week. They can still complete a domestic double and will meet VfB Stuttgart in the German Cup final on May 23.

“I took my time with the decision and I'm very happy now,” said Neuer. “Everything is right here: We can beat anyone with this team. In our goalkeeping team, we stick together and try to constantly raise the bar, push each other and prepare optimally for the games.”

Bayern’s backup goalkeeper Sven Ulreich has also signed a one-year contract extension alongside Neuer.

Neuer spent years as Germany’s first-choice keeper, won the World Cup in 2014, and stepped away from international duty after Euro 2024.

That hasn’t stopped talk of a surprise return for next month’s World Cup. Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann is set to name his squad next week.
