Midtjylland Edge Copenhagen 1-0 to Lift Danish Cup
| Lee’s 80th-minute goal seals Cup glory for FC Midtjylland |
Midtjylland claimed their first Danish Cup since 2021, securing Europa League qualification while Copenhagen endured another poor performance.
A sold-out Parken crowd watched Midtjylland dominate possession, with Copenhagen failing to create an equalizer late on...
Han-Beom Lee struck 10 minutes from time to seal a 1-0 win for FC Midtjylland over FC Copenhagen in Thursday’s Danish Cup final.
The match never reached the standard expected of the two sides, but Midtjylland salvaged their season with the trophy, while Copenhagen will view it as another low point in what’s been one of the club’s worst campaigns.
Midtjylland defender Han-Beom Lee turned into the cup hero when he headed home the winner past Copenhagen keeper Dominik Kotarski with 10 minutes left, giving FCM their first Danish Cup since 2021.
Winning the cup means FCM will play in next season’s Europa League. Bo Svensson’s side, who won the relegation play-offs, can only reach the Conference League if they win the Superliga’s European play-off.
A packed Parken Stadium with 35,485 fans split almost evenly between both clubs set the stage for the final, but the game didn’t match the atmosphere.
Copenhagen struggled to string passes together for the opening half-hour but stayed compact at the back. Midtjylland had most of the ball without carving out any clear chances.
The only real moments of quality came from Midtjylland’s Aral Simsir, recently voted Player of the Year by his peers in the Players’ Association, though even his touches didn’t lead to chances.
Mohamed Elyounoussi had the best opening of the half after 30 minutes, but Elias Olafsson got down well to tip it away.

Copenhagen looked sharper in the last 15 minutes before halftime, but their main contribution was winning free-kicks.
After the break, Midtjylland kept hold of possession, yet it seemed the game was drifting toward extra time with both sides struggling to create anything clear.
With 10 minutes to go, Midtjylland made one of their set-pieces count. Han-Beom Lee rose highest to head Simsir’s delivery past the keeper.

It summed up Copenhagen’s season: they never looked like finding an equalizer in the closing minutes.
