In an interview with Sport Week, Mourinho expressed confidence in Portugal and spoke on the political pressure around Iran’s participation...

Jose Mourinho thinks Portugal are set to be one of the teams to watch at this summer’s World Cup.

In a chat with Sport Week magazine, the ex-Chelsea and Manchester United boss said he’s confident his home nation can make a real impact on football’s biggest stage.

“Portugal are capable of anything,” the Benfica tactician said.

“They possess an incredible generation of players. A year ago, they won the Nations League

“We won the European Championship in 2016, and this generation is technically better than that side. Of course, there's Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil and Argentina, but Portugal can win this World Cup.”

Mourinho also commented on the political debate building around the World Cup.

While FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said Iran will take part, calls for the country to be barred from the tournament are growing louder.

Paolo Zampolli, a special envoy for former U.S. President Donald Trump, has pushed for Italy to step in and replace Iran if Middle East tensions escalate further.
