Jon Rahm Secures 2027 Ryder Cup Eligibility Through DP World Tour Deal

Jon Rahm clears path for 2027 Ryder Cup after DP World Tour fine settlement

The two-time major champion was previously at risk of missing out after not being included in a group of eight LIV Golf players granted conditional release in February. Rahm said on Tuesday the standoff with the tour is now over.

Jon Rahm has agreed to pay outstanding fines and commit to DP World Tour events this season, making him eligible to represent Europe in next year’s Ryder Cup.

The two-time major winner’s place in the team was previously uncertain after he was left out of a group of eight LIV Golf players granted conditional release by the DP World Tour in February.

“The DP World Tour and Jon Rahm have come to an ‌agreement on conditional releases to play in conflicting tournaments on LIV ‌Golf during the remainder of its 2026 season,” a DP World Tour spokesperson said.

“This involves payment of all outstanding fines accrued from 2024 to date, along ‌with participation in agreed DP World Tour tournaments (outside the Majors) in the remainder ‌of the 2026 season.”

In March, Rahm publicly accused the DP World Tour of “extorting players” for refusing to allow LIV Golf players to compete on both circuits without penalty.

Under the agreement, Rahm must pay an estimated £2.5 million ($3.33 million) in fines for competing in LIV events without clearance, drop all ongoing appeals, and play a set number of DP World Tour tournaments.

On Tuesday, the former world No. 1 said relations with the DP World Tour have improved and the conflict is now resolved.

“We were able to reach an agreement. There was some concessions on ‌both sides. I offered some; they extended an olive branch. Obviously we've reached an agreement. That will not be a stress anymore,” he told reporters ahead of the LIV Golf event in Washington DC this week.

“The Ryder Cup is still really, really far away, but I'm happy that hopefully I won't have to think about any worries or any predicaments come to Adare Manor then or hopefully ever.

“I want to support the DP World Tour. There's a lot of ‌events I want to play.”

Tyrrell Hatton, Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig and Elvis Smylie had all earlier received permission to play on both tours after negotiating individual agreements with the DP World Tour.

Rahm will now be able to earn Race to Dubai ranking points at next week’s PGA Championship and at any other Race to Dubai events he enters during the 2026 season.

The 2027 Ryder Cup is scheduled to take place at Adare Manor from September 17 to 19.
