After a derby defeat to Orlando, Inter Miami responded with a road win at Toronto, powered by Messi, De Paul, Suarez and Reguilon’s first MLS goal...
Lionel Messi was at his best for Inter Miami on Saturday, netting once and providing two assists in a 4-2 away win over Toronto FC in MLS.
After falling 4-3 at home to Orlando in the Florida derby last week, Miami responded with a convincing victory in Canada to return to winning form.
With the World Cup starting in just over a month, Messi delivered another standout display to help Inter Miami close the gap on Eastern Conference leaders Nashville to a single point.
His Argentina teammate Rodrigo De Paul opened the scoring just before half-time, volleying home from the edge of the box after his free kick hit the wall and fell kindly for him.
Miami made it 2-0 in the 56th minute when Lionel Messi slipped a first-time pass to former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez, who finished calmly.
Messi turned provider once more in the 73rd minute, setting up substitute Sergio Reguilon for his first-ever MLS goal and making it 3-0 for Miami.
Two minutes later, Lionel Messi got on the scoresheet himself. He played De Paul in down the right, forcing Toronto’s defense out of shape.
De Paul whipped a low cross into the box where Messi met it and guided a side-foot finish into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Luka Gavran.

Messi set up Miami’s third in the 73rd minute, laying the ball off for substitute Sergio Reguilon to score his first goal in MLS.
The Argentine added a goal of his own two minutes later after sending De Paul racing down the right flank, which pulled Toronto’s defense out of shape.
De Paul’s low ball into the area found Messi, and the 38-year-old placed a side-foot strike into the bottom corner beyond Luka Gavran.
