Denmark lost 1-5 to Slovakia on Thursday, marking their fourth defeat at the Ice Hockey World Championships. Slovakia’s stronger performance proved too much for the winless Danes.


Slovakia came into the match with a strong recent record against Denmark, having won seven of the last nine meetings. They had also beaten Denmark in their previous three encounters, including a penalty shootout victory on home ice in Kosice in May 2019.


Slovakia dominated the game from start to finish and showed no mercy, outshooting Denmark 44-14 on their way to a 5-1 win.


Mikael Gath’s side came out with early energy and played aggressively, but it didn’t last. They quickly struggled to get established in the Slovakian defensive zone.


Mads Soegaard faced constant pressure in goal from the opening minutes and made several strong reflex saves. He was forced off in the first period after a collision with Frantisek Pospisil and was replaced by Nikolaj Henriksen.



Slovakia controlled the match from start to finish and never let up, outshooting Denmark 44-14 on their way to a 5-1 victory.


Mikael Gath’s team began the game with plenty of aggression, but it faded quickly. They soon found it difficult to gain any foothold in Slovakia’s defensive zone.


Mads Soegaard was under pressure from the opening minutes and made several impressive reflex saves. He left the game in the first period after colliding with Frantisek Pospisil and was replaced by Nikolaj Henriksen.
