Four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek booked her spot in the fourth round on Friday, beating fellow Pole Magda Linette 6-4, 6-4 in an all-Polish clash.
Next up for Swiatek is red-hot Marta Kostyuk. The Ukrainian is 14-0 on clay this season after lifting titles in Madrid and Rouen, and she’s carrying serious momentum into their last-16 showdown.
The No.3 seed had to fight back from 2-0 down early against world No.35 Linette. Linette actually took their last meeting in Miami back in March.
Swiatek flipped the script with three breaks in the first set to grab control. She then powered out to a 4-1 lead in the second and didn’t look back.
She hit a wobble trying to serve it out, but steadied to seal the win in 1 hour 25 minutes on another scorching day at Roland Garros.
“It was a good match. I played much better than Miami,” Swiatek said. She hired Francisco Roig, Rafael Nadal’s longtime coach, after losing to Linette in Miami two months ago.
15th seed Kostyuk kept her clay surge going earlier with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic.
That result means she’s now 15-0 on clay this season after winning titles in Madrid and Rouen.
Iga advances! 💪

“Marta is having a great season. She always had a game to play well,” said Swiatek.
“So good for her. But I'm going to focus on myself, prepare tactically, as before any other match, and we'll see.”
