Everton Plan Statement Summer With Delap, Stones, Osorio on List
| Everton target Liam Delap as Chelsea striker faces uncertain future |
The Toffees are exploring moves for Delap, a return for John Stones, and a deal for Chile winger Dario Osorio as part of a major rebuild.
With Chelsea planning changes, Everton are monitoring Delap’s situation and preparing a move. Stones and Dario Osorio are also on their radar...
Everton are keeping a close eye on Liam Delap’s situation at Chelsea and are increasingly confident he could be available this summer.
Doubts over the striker’s future at Stamford Bridge have been mounting, and Everton have admired the 23-year-old for some time.
The club feels he matches the profile of the squad they’re building and was one of the teams in for him before he opted to move to Chelsea from Ipswich last summer.
They still see Delap as someone who could play a central role in their project, though they know they’d face competition if they make a move.
Newcastle United and Leeds United are also said to be seriously interested in making a move for Delap.
People close to the situation said that there’s a real chance Chelsea could let the striker go as part of wider changes at Stamford Bridge.
The club is currently looking for a new manager and is monitoring Xabi Alonso, while its recruitment strategy is shifting too. Signing a proven, top-level centre-forward is now a priority.
Chelsea want to bring in more experience and established quality as part of a squad overhaul. Landing a marquee striker would go a long way toward restoring the club’s standing in Europe.
Delap has struggled to build any momentum this season, managing just one Premier League goal in 26 appearances. Only 11 of those were starts.
It’s a sharp drop-off from the form that earned him the Chelsea move. At Ipswich he netted 12 Premier League goals and was regarded as one of the best young forwards outside the top clubs.
Even with his quiet year, Delap still has backers at Chelsea who believe in his long-term potential. Everton think a change of scenery and more responsibility could help him get back to the form that made him one of the league’s most sought-after young strikers.
The timing could also line up well with Everton’s broader plans.

Everton want to make a statement in the transfer market and are actively looking at multiple targets. They are already reported that they’re working on a proposal to bring former defender John Stones back, which shows how ambitious their recruitment plans are this summer.
The club is also linked with FC Midtjylland winger Dario Osorio alongside Delap.
The 22-year-old Chile international is on the radar of several Premier League clubs and matches Everton’s push to add more creativity in attack.
Even so, Delap could end up being one of the most interesting names to follow once the window opens.
