Arsenal’s Ben White will miss the rest of the season with a suspected MCL injury, putting his World Cup hopes at risk.
The defender was seen leaving the London Stadium with a brace on his right knee following Arsenal’s 1-0 win over West Ham, sparking concern among supporters.
White had to be substituted in the first half after colliding with West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville. The Athletic has now reported that the 28-year-old won’t return before the season ends.
The injury is believed to involve the medial collateral ligament, or MCL, which is the band of tissue on the inside of the knee that helps stabilize the joint.
It leaves Mikel Arteta with a major selection problem before the Champions League final on Saturday, May 30. He’s expected to turn to Cristhian Mosquera to fill in for White against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.

World Cup Hopes Hang in the Balance
White’s injury comes at a bad time, with Thomas Tuchel set to announce his England squad for this summer’s World Cup in under two weeks.
The 28-year-old had just earned a recall from Tuchel in March, ending a nearly four-year absence from the national team with an encouraging comeback.
Further details on the severity of his injury are expected soon, but reports suggest White’s World Cup chances are effectively over. Tuchel is unlikely to select a player who got injured just 31 days before the tournament kicks off.
White had started Arsenal’s last five matches, including both legs of their Champions League semi-final victory against Atletico Madrid. His absence will be a big blow for the Gunners, who play Burnley on Monday before the final against PSG.
