Allsvenskan Wrap: Champions Mjallby Win Back-to-Back, GAIS Thrash Orgryte

Mjallby down Malmo 3-2 to keep title charge alive

Elfsborg and AIK drew 1-1, leaving Elfsborg 3rd with 1 point from 2 games and AIK inconsistent on 2W-2D-2L.

GAIS scored 4 unanswered in the Gothenburg derby, with Max Andersson and Samuel Salter starring in a 4-0 win...

Defending Allsvenskan champions Mjällby rediscovered their form with a statement win away at Malmö. Hammarby and GAIS also picked up convincing victories, while Elfsborg and AIK played out a draw.

Malmo 2-3 Mjallby: Champions Find Form with Second Straight Win

Mjallby are starting to look like last season’s title-winning side. The win at Malmo makes it back-to-back victories for the first time this year and extends their unbeaten run to four, while Malmo slipped to a 3-2 home defeat for the second match running.

The visitors led after just 60 seconds. Villiam Granath headed a deep cross from the right back across goal, and Jacob Bergström nodded it in. It stayed 1-0 until early in the second half when Abdoulie Manneh fed Elliot Stroud in midfield. Stroud drove down the left, cut inside, and curled a low finish into the bottom corner for a superb second.

Malmo brought on Taha Ali to change the game, and he did exactly that two minutes later, latching onto Sead Haksabanovic’s through ball and finishing neatly for his first goal of the season. Mjallby responded with a change of their own, sending on Jeppe Kjaer. Six minutes after coming on, Kjaer delivered a quick cross that Jacob Bergstrom stretched to head home.

Malmo pulled one back nine minutes from time as Ali turned provider, squaring to Haksabanović on the edge of the box for a strike through traffic. It wasn’t enough though, and Malmo stay on 10 points from six games, level with Mjallby after today’s result.

Elfsborg 1-1 AIK: Stalemate Leaves Both Sides Frustrated

Elfsborg sit a point above fourth in third, but they’ve managed just one point from their last two games after today’s draw with AIK. That result follows a surprise defeat to Kalmar last time out.

The goals came in quick succession early on. Elfsborg opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Frederik Ihler pulled a low ball across the box for Ari Sigurpalsson to guide home. AIK hit back almost immediately, with Bersant Celina’s cross met by a powerful header from Zadok Yohanna.

The point ended a two-game losing run for AIK, but their season remains erratic. Solna now have two wins, two draws and two losses from six matches.

Hammarby 3-0 Vasteras: Late Surge Lifts Bajen Back to Winning Ways

Three goals after the break ended Hammarby’s winless run and handed newly promoted VästerÃ¥s their first loss in three games. The visitors stay mid-table despite the defeat.

Consecutive draws had cooled Hammarby’s bright start, and another stalemate looked likely until the 67th minute. Hampus Skoglund found Victor Lind 25 yards out, and the club-record signing fired a first-time effort into the top corner to put Bajen ahead.

Hammarby doubled the lead six minutes later after Victor Eriksson’s header came back off the crossbar. Vasteras couldn’t clear, and Paulos Abraham forced home the rebound. The hosts wrapped up a dominant finish when Montader Madjed curled in a third with four minutes remaining.

GAIS 4-0 Orgryte: Derby Rout Gives GAIS First Win of the Season

GAIS dominated the Gothenburg derby to claim their maiden victory of the campaign and extend their unbeaten run to three. Orgryte, meanwhile, have just one point from their last four matches.

The game stayed goalless until the 33rd minute, when Max Andersson cut in from the right and placed a low shot into the near corner. GAIS made it 2-0 seconds after the restart as Samuel Salter volleyed in from Andersson’s header. A penalty converted by Joackim Fagerjord six minutes later effectively ended it, and Oscar Pettersson added a fourth from 10 yards in the 90th minute.
