NHL Recap: Rangers Dominate Capitals, Bruins Beat Flyers

The NHL was buzzing with action on Sunday, featuring seven games that could impact playoff positions, especially in the Eastern Conference. The New York Rangers dominated the Washington Capitals, scoring eight goals in a rout. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers edged the Boston Bruins in overtime, 2-1, keeping their playoff hopes alive.


In other games, the Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-3, while the Montreal Canadiens beat the New York Rangers 3-2. The Detroit Red Wings lost 4-2 to the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Columbus Blue Jackets were defeated 5-1 by the Carolina Hurricanes.


The playoff picture is heating up, with teams like the Flyers and Red Wings fighting for a spot. 



Rangers Dominate Capitals 8-1

Conor Sheary scored just 23 seconds in, setting the tone for New York's blowout. Washington's Connor McMichael briefly equalised, but the Rangers took over.


The Rangers were unstoppable, scoring seven more goals. 






The Capitals conceded five goals in the second period. Will Cuylle scored twice, J.T. Miller, Adam Sykora, and Adam Fox added to the damage for the Rangers.


The Capitals were out of it, conceding two more goals in the third. Vincent Trocheck and Will Cuylle added to the score, Cuylle completing his hat-trick late on.


The Rangers win five of six, but remain bottom of the East. Washington's playoff hopes took a hit, with their 30th regulation loss. 





Flyers Edge Bruins in Overtime

Christian Dvorak scored less than five minutes in, giving Philly the lead mmm. Boston had a tough first period, outshot 12-6.


The Flyers held on, and won it in OT. 


Pavel Zacha tied it 35 seconds into the second period on a power play, tapping in a loose puck. Overtime beckoned, with both teams pushing for a playoff boost.




Porter Martrone scored midway through OT, giving Philly the 2-1 win. 


Philly's in eighth place in the East, with five games left. They're cluding several teams, but the Bruins' playoff push is getting complicated after three straight losses.
