Lens reached their first Coupe de France final since 1997/98 with a convincing 4-1 semi-final win over Toulouse. The result extended Les Sang et Or’s strong home record to 14 wins from their last 15 games.
After coming from 2-0 down to beat Toulouse in Ligue 1 four days earlier, Lens looked determined to start fast against Carles Martinez Novell’s side.
The hosts quickly took control and their early pressure paid off. Pape Demba Diop clumsily fouled Florian Thauvin in the box. The Frenchman picked himself up and slotted the penalty past Kjetil Haug.
Buoyed by the opener, Lens doubled their lead in the 18th minute. Thauvin showed great vision to find Allan Saint-Maximin, who swept a brilliant 20-yard finish into the bottom corner.
Still reeling from a disastrous opening 20 minutes, Toulouse were handed a way back in. Samson Baidoo gave the ball away in his own box, allowing Santiago Hidalgo to tap in from close range.
Despite that lapse, Lens stayed on top. They nearly restored their two-goal lead when Odsonne Edouard’s low effort was stopped by Haug.
Lens got their third before half-time. Matthieu Udol found space inside the six-yard box to tap in from Saud Abdulhamid’s perfect delivery.

Spectaculaire et emmené par un Bollaert des (très) grands soirs, le Racing s'impose largement et rallie la finale de la @coupedefranceCA pour la première fois depuis 1998. Merci Lensois !!! 👏#RCLTFC #CoupeDeFrance pic.twitter.com/yB1hIKQFeS
With eight wins from the last 10 meetings between the sides, Lens showed no sign of easing up after the break. Edouard wasted two good chances for Pierre Sage’s side.
Toulouse created nothing of note at the other end. Lens killed the game in the 74th minute. Abdulhamid unselfishly squared for Adrien Thomasson to finish after Haug saved Thauvin’s initial free-kick.
With a commanding three-goal lead, Lens saw out the closing stages at a raucous Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Mamadou Sangare and Abdallah Sima wasted further chances to add gloss to the scoreline.

Still, it was a historic night for Lens. Sage’s side moved a step closer to a first-ever Coupe de France title, with either Strasbourg or Nice awaiting them in the final.
