Man City beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad as Haaland’s winner moves them within three points of the Gunners with a game in hand in the title race.
Man City edge Arsenal in Premier League thriller to seize title race control...
Manchester City earned a possible season-defining 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad, closing to within three points of their Premier League title rivals with a game in hand and stretching their unbeaten home league run to 15.
It was a decisive day in a gripping title race between master and apprentice, with the Gunners desperate to shake off their ‘bottlers’ tag.
Arsenal looked nervous early on. Erling Haaland nearly intercepted David Raya after a loose backpass from Gabriel, before Rayan Cherki struck the post.
Even after Arsenal settled, Cherki struck first in this Premier League heavyweight clash. He danced past Gabriel and Rice before drilling a fine right-footed shot into the bottom corner for his 10th goal of the season.
City’s lead didn’t last, though. They conceded in messy fashion just two minutes later.
Out of character, Gianluigi Donnarumma lingered on the ball and Kai Havertz pounced, intercepting the Italian to bring Arsenal level.
Neither attack eased up, and defensive lapses continued through the half. But neither side could land another blow, leaving the game finely balanced at half-time.
City wasted two quick chances to retake the lead after the restart. Abdukodir Khusanov’s effort was blocked, then Haaland hit the woodwork.
A match for the ages.

The title race is going down to the wire.
Arteta’s side couldn’t find their rhythm, but Donnarumma was suddenly forced into a save to stop Havertz at the end of a quick break involving Eberechi Eze and Martin Odegaard.
Eze then hit the post himself moments later, before a familiar source put Pep Guardiola’s side back in front.
Haaland overpowered Gabriel to turn in a sharp close-range finish past Raya after good build-up from Jeremy Doku and Nico O’Reilly down the left.
Arteta’s side were under pressure, but they didn’t go down without a fight.
When Gabriel’s header struck the woodwork, it felt like another late twist was coming.

The Brazilian was locked in a physical duel with Haaland all game, and was lucky to stay on after appearing to attempt a headbutt toward the Norwegian.
Havertz had one last chance to rescue a point, but his header skimmed the roof of the net in the fifth of seven added minutes.

There was no final twist at the Etihad, in a match that could prove decisive in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal’s 22-year wait for a league title may go on after a fourth straight domestic defeat, including last month’s Carabao Cup final loss.
City, meanwhile, look fully focused as they chase a fifth title in six seasons.
