Doha's Diamond League season opener delayed amid escalating Iran-US tensions...

The opening round of the Diamond League season in Doha has been postponed from May 8 to June 19 due to the ongoing Gulf conflict. This decision prioritizes athlete and spectator safety amid escalating tensions.

The track and field meeting is the latest top sporting event disrupted in Qatar following US and Israel's air attacks on Iran and Iran's retaliatory missile strikes on neighboring states. Other affected events include the Qatar MotoGP race, the World Endurance Championship, and the “Finalissima” soccer match between Spain and Argentina, which was cancelled.

“In the interests of athlete and spectator safety, a decision has now been taken to postpone the meeting. Should conditions allow, it will now be held on June ‌19,” the event's organisers said in a statement.

“As temperatures are expected to be higher in Doha in June, the meeting will also be moved from the Qatar Sports Club to the Khalifa International Stadium. The stadium... is ‌temperature-regulated.”

The Qatar MotoGP race has been postponed to November 6-8 due to the ongoing Middle East conflict, with the sports car World Endurance Championship's opening leg also being rescheduled. Unfortunately, the “Finalissima” soccer match between Spain and Argentina, scheduled for Doha, has been cancelled due to logistical and security challenges.
