Hurricanes beat Penguins 6-5 in OT, Devils top Rangers 6-3...
The Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils had thrilling wins on Wednesday, with both teams scoring six goals each.
Here's what went down on the ice:
- The Hurricanes edged the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-5 in overtime, after blowing a two-goal lead late in regulation. Logan Stankoven, Mark Jankowski, Seth Jarvis, and Alexander Nikishin scored for Carolina, while Frederik Andersen made 24 saves.
- The Devils outlasted the New York Rangers 6-3, with Jack Hughes and Connor Brown each contributing a goal and two assists. Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt also scored for New Jersey.
Thrilling Comeback in Raleigh
The game with the most goals came in Raleigh, where the Carolina Hurricanes took the lead four times in the contest against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but needed overtime to come out on top 6-5.
Jordan Martinook's opener midway through the first gave the hosts the opening period lead. That was the only goal until the same point of the second, when Penguins captain Sidney Crosby tied things up. After Jackson Blake restored the Canes' lead, the goals came thick and fast in the third.

Erik Karlsson tied the game with a power play goal, but Taylor Hall quickly restored Carolina's lead. The teams traded goals again, with Bryan Rust scoring for Pittsburgh and Logan Stankoven responding for Carolina.
Karlsson scored his second goal of the game with 5:14 left, and Benjamin Kindel added the Penguins' fifth goal just 23 seconds later, giving them their first lead of the night. However, the Hurricanes refused to give up. K'Andre Miller tied the game with less than three minutes left, sending it to overtime.
The five-minute extra period went the distance, but Sean Walker scored the winner with 29 seconds left, securing a 6-5 victory for the Hurricanes.
The Carolina Hurricanes have taken sole possession of the top spot in the Eastern Conference after their 12th overtime victory of the season, beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-5 in a thrilling matchup. Sean Walker's goal with 28.3 seconds left in overtime sealed the win for the Canes. The Penguins, meanwhile, remain in fifth spot, unable to jump ahead of the Montreal Canadiens.
Devils Dominate Rangers in 6-3 Win
A three-goal haul wasn't enough for the New York Rangers, as the New Jersey Devils topped them 6-3 on the road. Jack Hughes and Jaroslav Chmelar led the scoring, with a goal and an assist each.
Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier also contributed a goal and a helper each in a solid performance from the Devils. The away team's strong showing secured the win, with Connor Brown also chipping in a goal and two assists.
The Rangers initially took the lead through Vadislav Gavrikov, but succumbed to defeat after Connor Brown put New Jersey ahead for the first time towards the end of the second. Down 4-2 in the third after Timo Meier's marker, New York made it a one-score game through Conor Sheary.
That was the closest they got though, as Hughes and Bratt netted late goals to seal the win for the Devils. The Devils are still 10 points out of the playoff spots despite the success, their third win in a row. The Rangers sit bottom of the East with their 32nd regular season loss of the year.
