The Detroit Red Wings secured a thrilling 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, intensifying the playoff race. Alex DeBrincat scored the game-winning goal with just 3:18 left in regulation, breaking a 1-1 tie. J.T. Compher and Andrew Copp also contributed to the victory, with Copp icing the win with an empty-net goal.


The Red Wings' defense held strong, with John Gibson making 31 saves to secure the win. Montreal's Juraj Slafkovsky had opened the scoring in the second period, but Detroit rallied to take the lead. This win puts the Red Wings in a strong position, currently eighth in the Eastern Conference with 84 points, just behind Montreal.



Detroit Red Wings Snap Win Streak Needed 

Detroit Red Wings needed a win, and they got it - a 3-1 victory over Montreal Canadiens. The game was scoreless until 2:15 left in the second, when Juraj Slafkovsky netted a power play goal for the Habs.


The Canadiens couldn't hold their lead, as Detroit's J.T. Compher equalized just two minutes into the third period. The intense third period saw 18 shots from each team, but the Red Wings broke through in the end.


Alex DeBrincat scored the winner with 3:27 left, killing Montreal's hopes of an equalizer.


The Canadiens pushed hard, but it was all in vain - Andrew Copp sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final moments. Detroit's back-to-back wins put them in the mix, tied with Montreal on 84 points.




Ottawa Senators Edge Islanders

The Ottawa Senators kept their postseason hopes alive with a gritty 3-2 win over the New York Islanders, overcoming two deficits. Matthew Schaefer gave the Islanders an early lead in the second, scoring his 50th point of the season.


Shane Pinto levelled things up midway through the second, scoring shorthanded to keep Ottawa in it.




The game was on a knife's edge heading into the third, but New York's Brayden Schenn restored the Islanders' lead. Not for long, though - Warren Foegele equalized for Ottawa just three minutes later.


Brady Tkachuk scored the winner with just 13 seconds left, finishing off Jordan Spence's pass to snatch the win.




The Sens' three wins in four games have kept their playoff hopes alive, just four points behind Columbus for the final spot. Meanwhile, the Islanders are on the outside looking in, level with Columbus but stuck in ninth.
