Kon Knueppel scores 26 as Hornets edge Knicks, Pistons dominate Pelicans...

NBA action heats up as Hornets, Pistons, and Magic secure crucial wins.

Kon Knueppel scored 26 points as the Charlotte Hornets maintained their late-season charge for an NBA playoff berth with an emphatic 114-103 defeat of the high-flying New York Knicks on Thursday.

Charlotte forward Knueppel rattled in six three-pointers as part of an impressive all-round team shooting display to help the Hornets extend their winning streak to five games as they chase a postseason ticket.

LaMelo Ball finished with 22 points, six assists and five rebounds, one of five Charlotte players to finish in double digits.

The Hornets have now won 23 of their last 29 games since late January, and are firmly in the thick of the Eastern Conference race for the playoffs.

With sixth-placed Toronto occupying the last automatic playoff spot at 40-32, Charlotte are part of a cluster of teams jostling for position just below them.

Philadelphia is currently in seventh place with a 40-33 record, while Charlotte, Orlando, and Miami are tied with 39-34 records. The Hornets' impressive performance is a significant turnaround for the franchise, considering they were just one spot away from the bottom of the Eastern Conference last season with only 19 wins.

The team's recent success can be attributed to the strong performances of players like LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller, as well as the impact of rookie Kon Knueppel, who's been making waves with his impressive shooting.

Orlando Magic kept pace with Charlotte Hornets, defeating Sacramento Kings 121-117, led by Paolo Banchero's 30 points and Desmond Bane's 23 points.

Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons bounced back from Wednesday's overtime defeat to Atlanta, comfortably beating New Orleans Pelicans 129-108.

Jalen Duren stepped up big time, scoring 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, taking on the offensive duties while Cade Cunningham recovers from a collapsed lung. Kevin Huerter added 22 points, and Daniss Jenkins contributed 19 points to help the Pistons secure a win.

The Pistons are now 53-20, enjoying a comfortable four-and-a-half game lead at the top of the East. This is a testament to the team's resilience, especially with Cunningham's absence.
