Marshall Munetsi has been left out of Zimbabwe's squad for the Four Nations tournament in Botswana, despite scoring three goals in three consecutive matches for Paris FC in Ligue 1. Coach Marian Marinica cited the need for experience, energy, and quality in the squad, but Munetsi's omission has sparked debate among fans and analysts.

The tournament, scheduled for March 23-31 at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, will feature Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Botswana. The squad includes experienced players like Marvelous Nakamba, Knowledge Musona, and Teenage Hadebe, alongside new faces like Corbin Mthunzi and Shane Maroodza.

Zimbabwe's coach, Marian Marinica, has named a squad for the upcoming competition, aiming to build momentum and test players. The tournament will help assess combinations and prep the team for future challenges.

However, Munetsi, who last played for Zimbabwe late last year, missed the cut. He didn't feature in the squad, having sat out the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

Munetsi's Form Fails to Impress Coach

Munetsi's impressive form at Paris FC, with three goals in three consecutive matches, wasn't enough to earn him a spot in Zimbabwe's squad. He's currently on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers and has made nine Ligue 1 appearances.

Injury woes also ruled out other notable players, including Brendan Galloway, Tawanda Chirewa, and Jordan Zemura, who are all sidelined.

Among the selected players are experienced figures such as Teenage Hadebe, Marvelous Nakamba, Knowledge Musona, Prince Dube and Macauley Bonne, while a number of younger players will be looking to make a strong impression in national colours.

According to Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA, the squad’s composition will give the technical team an opportunity to further evaluate depth, chemistry and readiness as the Warriors continue their preparations for future assignments.

Marinica avoided commenting on Munetsi's omission, saying he's happy with the squad's balance and quality.

“I've got a good mix of experience and youth,” he implied, focusing on the positives.

“We are looking forward to this FIFA window and the opportunity to work with the players in a competitive environment,” said Marinica as quoted by ZIFA website.

“We have selected a squad that gives us experience, energy and quality, and this tournament will be important in helping us continue building the team in the right direction.”

Munetsi has 35 caps for Zimbabwe, scoring two goals.
