Mikaela Shiffrin secured her sixth women's World Cup overall title, tying Annemarie Moser-Pröll's record from the 1970s. She achieved this feat with a top-15 finish in the giant slalom at Hafjell, Norway, finishing 11th overall.
Shiffrin's victory was a culmination of her dominant season, winning nine out of 10 slalom races and claiming the slalom World Cup title for a record ninth time. Her closest competitor, Emma Aicher, finished 12th in the giant slalom, 87 points behind Shiffrin in the overall standings.
Shiffrin was 17th after the first run but climbed to 11th, scoring 24 points. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Aicher dropped from third to 12th after a mistake.
“It's quite emotional,” said the American. “This thing sums up the whole season of work and fighting... I have to say to Emma that her skiing has been just outstanding and today it was just so cool to watch her.”
