Sevilla name Luis Garcia Plaza as new manager, seeking stability after poor start to season...

Sevilla has appointed Luis Garcia Plaza as their new manager, replacing Matias Almeyda, who was sacked after a 2-0 defeat to Valencia. Garcia Plaza, 53, has been given the task of turning Sevilla's fortunes around, as they currently sit 15th in La Liga, just three points above the relegation zone.

The club had a disappointing start to the season, finishing 17th in La Liga last season, and Almeyda's dismissal marks the ninth managerial change at Sevilla in the past four years. Garcia Plaza brings experience to the role, having managed 229 Liga matches with Levante, Getafe, Villarreal, and Alaves, as well as clubs in the United Arab Emirates, China, and Saudi Arabia.

Luis Garcia Plaza, 53, is back in the game, having been appointed as the new manager of Sevilla FC. He's been out of work since being sacked by Alaves in December 2024, but his experience is undeniable - he's managed 229 Liga matches with Levante, Getafe, Villarreal, and Alaves, and also has stints in the United Arab Emirates, China, and Saudi Arabia.

With his wealth of experience, Garcia Plaza is looking to turn Sevilla's fortunes around, as they currently sit 15th in the table, just three points above relegation.

“Sevilla FC have reached an agreement with Madrid-born coach Luis Garcia Plaza,” said the club in a statement on Tuesday adding that the new coach “will take charge of the first team to 30 June 2027.”

Matias Almeyda was sacked as Sevilla's manager after just 32 competitive matches, following a 2-0 defeat to Valencia that left the team struggling against relegation. Almeyda, who took charge in June 2025, had a record of 10 wins, 7 draws, and 15 losses during his tenure.

Sevilla has a rich history, having won the UEFA Cup and Europa League seven times since 2006, but they haven't claimed a Spanish domestic trophy since the 2010 Copa Del Rey triumph.
