Marseille bounced back from their Coupe de France exit with a 1-0 win over Toulouse, moving back into Ligue 1's top three and boosting their Champions League hopes. The win avenges their midweek cup loss to Toulouse, giving Marseille a much-needed boost.

Habib Beye's side had won their previous match against Lyon, but the cup exit had raised doubts about their momentum. Marseille's response was a confident 1-0 win, securing a vital three points in the title race.

However, they proved their mental resilience in the opening period and required just under 20 minutes to break the deadlock.

A scorer in Wednesday’s cup tie, Mason Greenwood was at it again, as he swept Igor Paixao’s cutback high into the net for his second goal in four Ligue 1 outings.

Marseille kept pushing for a second goal, with Paixao's shot forcing a decent save from Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then had a great chance to double the lead, rounding Restes after a defensive error, but his narrow-angle effort missed the target.

As halftime neared, Toulouse started to find their groove, with Aron Dønnum and Warren Kamanzi creating some tense moments for Marseille. The away side left the break with a bit of momentum.

Toulouse kicked it up a notch after the restart, creating chances straight away. Santiago Hidalgo's shot flew narrowly over, and Yann Gboho hit the woodwork before the hour mark.

The game settled into a bit of a tense rhythm after Gboho's near-miss, with both teams giving away a few soft fouls and a couple of scuffles flaring up.

As the game neared its end, Toulouse pushed hard but struggled to create clear chances. Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli wasn't really tested, and the hosts only managed one shot on target all game.

Marseille's win keeps them unbeaten in 24 Ligue 1 meetings with Toulouse, moving them provisionally third, ahead of Lyon. Toulouse haven't won in six league games but are comfortably mid-table with a 12-point buffer.

Toulouse can focus on their cup semi-final vs RC Lens in April, aiming for a second cup win in four seasons.
