Kylian Mbappe is currently in Paris receiving treatment for a knee sprain, with no plans for surgery, according to his entourage. The Real Madrid superstar, who is also France captain, has been diagnosed with a left knee sprain and will undergo conservative treatment.
Mbappe was accompanied by Real Madrid's medical staff in Paris, and his team stated that he's undergoing further tests to optimize his recovery and prepare for his comeback. Coach Alvaro Arbeloa mentioned that Mbappe needs time to recover and return at 100%, but couldn't provide a specific timeline.
This injury has been ongoing since December, and Mbappe has been managing the pain. His participation in the upcoming Champions League match against Manchester City is uncertain, and his availability for the World Cup is a concern for the French national team.
“In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee,” it continued, “with the aim of optimising his follow-up care and preparing for his comeback. No surgical intervention is being planned at the moment.”
Real Madrid has confirmed that Kylian Mbappe is suffering from a left knee sprain and will undergo conservative treatment, ruling him out of today's match against Getafe. The club's medical team, in consultation with French specialists, has decided against surgery, prioritizing Mbappe's recovery for the World Cup.
Mbappe's injury has been ongoing since December, and he's been experiencing discomfort, leading to his absence from recent matches, including the Champions League playoff against Benfica. Real Madrid's coach, Alvaro Arbeloa, hopes Mbappe will return soon, but no timeline has been given.
“After tests carried out on our player Kylian Mbappe by French specialist doctors, under the supervision of Real Madrid's Medical Services, the diagnosis of a sprain in his left knee has been confirmed, as well as the suitability of the conservative treatment currently being followed,” said the Spanish giants in a statement.
Mbappe has been dealing with an external ligament injury to his left knee since late 2025 and missed last week's Champions League playoff against Benfica due to ongoing pain, sources close to him say.
His team insists there's no disagreement between Real Madrid and the French national team over his treatment, with both prioritizing his recovery for the World Cup. France is eager to have Mbappe fit for the tournament, given his importance to the team.
Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid's top scorer with 38 goals in 33 appearances, is uncertain to play in the Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City due to a knee injury. The first leg is scheduled for March 11th, with the return leg on March 17th.
