Rutten, 63, has a wealth of experience managing top clubs like Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, and Schalke 04. He's vowed to follow the path set by Advocaat, who led Curacao to their first-ever World Cup qualification. “I'm honoured to continue his work,” Rutten said.

Curacao, with a population of 156,000, is the smallest country to qualify for the World Cup. They'll face Germany, Ecuador, and Ivory Coast in Group E, with their first match against Germany in Houston on June 14.

Dick Advocaat, 78, led Curacao to their first-ever World Cup qualification and recommended Fred Rutten, 63, as his successor. Rutten will take over as head coach for the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. in June, where Curacao faces Ecuador, Germany, and the Ivory Coast in Group E.

Rutten described the circumstances of his appointment as unpleasant, but he's excited to take on the role. "I would have preferred different circumstances, but I'm starting to get a little antsy,” he told a Dutch TV football program.

The two ⁠experienced coaches have a good relationship.

“I never worked with him. But sometimes you meet someone, and you have a certain click and a certain feeling. It was just normal right away. He's a very nice man,” Rutten added.

Fred Rutten is heading to Curacao next week for his official presentation as the national team coach. Later this month, he'll lead the squad to Australia for friendlies against China in Sydney on March 27 and Australia (Socceroos) in Melbourne on March 31.
