FC Groningen midfielder suffers cruciate ligament injury in Volendam match...
FC Groningen captain Stije Resink is facing a long recovery period after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in Sunday's game against FC Volendam. The midfielder confirmed the news on Instagram, saying he'll be out for up to 12 months.
Resink, reportedly a target for Ajax and Benfica, got the injury early in the second half when he tried to intercept the ball and his knee buckled. He had to be stretchered off the field, ending his season prematurely.
“I will therefore be out of action for a while and will focus on my recovery. Thank you for your support and all your messages!”

Stije Resink, the 22-year-old Dutch midfielder, was linked to Ajax and Benfica during the January transfer window, but FC Groningen wasn't willing to let him go until at least summer. Unfortunately, his recent knee injury will likely put a wrench in any potential summer transfer plans.

Resink had a great season so far, scoring 5 goals and 5 assists in 24 Eredivisie games, playing every minute until his forced substitution on Sunday. He was a key player for FC Groningen, and his absence will be felt.
