William Osula scored a stunning 90th-minute winner as 10-man Newcastle United beat Manchester United 2-1, handing Michael Carrick his first defeat as interim manager. The Magpies' victory marks their fourth consecutive win at home against the Red Devils in the Premier League.

Newcastle had been struggling, with just one win in their last seven PL games, but they turned their form around against Carrick's Red Devils, who had claimed six victories in their previous games. The win moves Newcastle back into the European conversation, while Manchester United's loss leaves them level on points with Aston Villa in third place.

The Magpies were sluggish at home against Everton, but things looked different here, with the Toon Army fueling a blazing start. Kieran Trippier's cross hit the woodwork, and Lewis Hall's follow-up shot went wide.

Newcastle dominated inside the opening quarter-hour, with Anthony Elanga flashing a shot narrowly wide. Joelinton dispossessed compatriot Casemiro and picked out Harvey Barnes on the edge of the box, but his effort curled past the post.

The visitors struggled to get going, but eventually created multiple openings before the interval, looking to trouble the Magpies' defense.

Kobbie Mainoo's rasping shot from distance had Aaron Ramsdale making a save. Matheus Cunha was denied shortly after by the Magpies' goalkeeper, and Bryan Mbeumo skied the rebound from a few yards out.

Newcastle got a blow in first-half stoppage time as Jacob Ramsey got a second yellow for simulation. But the hosts got a penalty almost immediately after – Bruno Fernandes brought down Anthony Gordon, and Gordon converted from the spot to give Newcastle the lead.

However, there was one more twist in a frantic end to the first half as United equalised through Casemiro, who nodded in from Fernandes' free-kick into the box.

Despite being a man down, Newcastle dominated possession in the early parts of the second half but failed to capitalise, with Gordon's effort comfortably saved by Senne Lammens.

Carrick's Manchester United struggled to capitalize on their numerical advantage, prompting a double-substitution on the hour mark. Newcastle had a chance to regain the lead on 66 minutes, but Anthony Gordon's sliding effort on Sandro Tonali's corner went off target.

The visitors started to take control with 20 minutes left, and had a great chance to go ahead when Fernandes picked out Leny Yoro in the box, but the Frenchman's header was stopped by Ramsdale.

Joshua Zirkzee was next to test Ramsdale, who made a crucial save on the French striker's dipping effort. That proved pivotal as Newcastle's substitute Osula scored a stunner in stoppage time, cutting inside from the right flank before curling a shot into the far corner.
